Ellen Hopkins has a unique writing style. It almost looks like poetry on the page and the characters speak in the first person. It would be interesting to hear what you think of this style and why it works for this story.
Crank was the first book I read by Ellen Hopkins and I loved it. It took me several pages to get use to her style of writing but after I was comfortable with it the book read like any other novel. This story is based on her daughter's personal experience. Hopkins wrote a sequel to Crank called Glass. I was intrigued by how easy it was for Kristine to become hooked on crank and how she couldn't kick the habit.
